Project Description

Old Mission Peninsula

Located on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay in northern Michigan, this home enjoys breathtaking views of the ever-changing seasons on the lakeshore. We were retained by the Client to evaluate existing properties for sale during the economic downturn to ensure selection of a home with the highest potential for return on investment. The existing home lacked curb appeal, had an awkward interior layout, and the low quality exterior was severely weathered. Initially the Client was concerned that the house was so plain and boxy that little could be done to achieve their design aesthetic within the budget. Three quick design sketches were created illustrating the potential for this property allowing the Client to make a comfortable decision to purchase.

The main floor traffic flow was constricted by a poorly placed staircase that had several unnecessary landings and directional changes. We proposed reversing the stairs and making them more compact in order to create more living space and reorient the dining and kitchen area to the lakeshore views. The front deck and pergola was removed and replaced with a wide covered porch for outdoor dining or just taking in the view. The Craftsman details of the exterior are mirrored on the interior with simple casings, doors and cabinetry.

The dramatic makeover of this home is the result of the Clients appreciation of quality design and assembling a talented team of Craftsmen and Design Professionals.
